XR5.0 Pilot Preparation Meeting – tackle challenges and optimize the project’s  strategies for the best outcomes.

On October 24th, 2024, the project team gathered in Milan, following an invitation from EKSO. The meeting took place at Laboratorio Cagliani, a venue renowned for its unique blend of art, history, and innovation. This inspiring location exemplifies the intersection of advanced technologies and creative expression, providing an ideal setting for collaboration and discussion.

The meeting aimed to assess the implementation of Pilot #3: Operator 5.0 Training for Smart Water Pipes utilizing XR Streaming technology. This collaboration involved Involving EKSO Srl, HOLOLIGHT, INNOV-ACTS LIMITED.

The purpose of the meeting was to align on the Pilot’s objectives and outline the next steps moving forward.

The team discussed the recent successful completion of preparation activities for the XR5.0 pilots and use cases, marking a crucial milestone for the project. This involved designing the systems for each use case, assembling a list of necessary datasets, and collaborating in co-creation activities. However, the pilot encountered a few technical challenges, specifically around the approach to the implementation of the pilot.

The partners realized they needed to narrow their focus to three key elements that would drive the success of their no-dig pipeline interventions.

  • The first use case will concentrate on enabling operators to pinpoint the exact location of faults or leaks by leveraging a combination of underground sensor data processed through an AI algorithm known as Sandman. Augmented reality (AR) will then visualize the precise location on the ground, eliminating the need for unnecessary digging.

  • In the second use case, EKSO will evaluate XR50 technologies to showcase video analysis of pipe inspections that will help identify faults or anomalies on-site through AR.

  • For the third and final use case, EKSO operators will utilize wearable devices combined with AR and AI to receive real-time assistance while executing safety and operational procedures.

The partners involved in the Pilot, along with the coordinator GFT Italia, provided innovative solutions to address EKSO’s testing challenges, enabling the Pilot to implement the testing phase successfully, and each team member has their role to play and is ready to keep moving forward.

Looking ahead, XR5.0 partners will meet again in Bienna, Switzerland, to discuss the project’s achievements so far and define the timetable for the coming activities.

At XR5.0, we’re more committed than ever to delivering great results.
