XR5.0 Project

XR5.0 will build, demonstrate, and validate a novel Person-Centric and AI-based XR paradigm that will be tailored to the requirements and nature of I5.0 applications. The XR5.0 project aims to develop user-friendly Extended Reality (XR) applications for industrial workers using Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). Despite improving production and safety, current XR applications often lack personalization for Industry 5.0 (I5.0). To overcome this, the project proposes person-centric XR visualizations considering individual worker traits, skills, and context, addressing challenges in technology, content, flow control, and compliance with European values. XR5.0 focuses on a pioneering XR approach tailored for I5.0, integrating it with innovative "XR-made-in-Europe" technology. This includes human-centered digital twins and advanced AI paradigms. The XR5.0 technologies will be coupled with a cloud-based XR training platform for Operator 5.0 applications, which will enable ergonomic and personalized training of industrial workers on popular processes.

05

The pilot applications will be integrated to the EU XR platform

These applications will be integrated to the EU XR platform that will be developed as part of the call. Most importantly, XR5.0 will build a vibrant community of interested stakeholders around the project’s technological outcomes

The XR5.0 Approach

outlines its approach to developing, deploying, and operating XR applications for Industry 5.0 (I5.0) using “XR-made-in-Europe” technology. The main pillars include:

Developing a model aligning with the "XR-made-in-Europe” technology that supports I5.0 applications in-line with European values as reflected in relevant EU regulations and polices.

Creating cognitive, human-centered digital twins that will be able to construct the workers’ digital image in a credible way. Such digital images will be accordingly used to personalise the content, the flow, the aesthetics, the locality, and the geometry of XR5.0 applications

XR5.0 will build technology that blends XR into advanced, human centric AI paradigms that are commonly deployed and used in I5.0 applications, such as generative AI (GenAI), explainable AI (XAI), Active Learning (AL), and neurosymbolic AI. This blending will enable a variety of AI-enabled functionalities from the visualisation of AI-generated insights to AI-based interactions with cyber-representations of manufacturing tasks.

XR5.0 will enable new forms of multi-modal augmented intelligence based on the visualisation of AI outcomes in various production scenarios. XR5.0-AugnentedIntelligence will be integrated within XR solutions of the partners to enable generation of innovative virtual worlds and construction of realistic, yet simulated environments (i.e., simulated reality).

XR5.0 will build its own cloud-based human centric Operator5.0 training platform that will include XR content for common I5.0 UCs. The platform will be integrated with other XR platforms of the European XR ecosystem.

The project’s person-centric, AI-based XR paradigm will be integrated, deployed, and demonstrated in six real life pilots comprising over 12 UCs. These applications will leverage and demonstrate different aspects of the XR5.0 technology, including the production of interactive, trustworthy, person centric, and explainable representations.

The project will build its own community of XR stakeholders including researchers, XR vendors and providers/integrators of I5.0 enabled XR solutions. The development of this community will boost the sustainability and wider use of the project’s results.
