XR5.0 at the IEEE DCOSS-IoT 2026 Conference

XR5.0 partner UBITECH, represented by Nikolaos Tousert (RCS Research Unit), participated in the TI-2026 Workshop, held as part of the DCOSS-IoT 2026 Conference, where he presented the paper “Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and eXtended Reality (XR) Integration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software Systems.”

The paper provides a comprehensive overview of immersive technologies, examining the evolution of AR, VR, MR, and XR, their integration with Artificial Intelligence, and their applications across sectors including healthcare, education, manufacturing, retail, and entertainment. It also explores key challenges related to accessibility, interoperability, privacy, and ethics, while outlining future research directions towards human-centric, AI-enabled XR ecosystems.

This research closely aligns with the objectives of the XR5.0 Project, supporting the development of intelligent, accessible, and responsible Extended Reality solutions for Industry 5.0 through the integration of AI-powered immersive technologies.

The paper was co-authored by Argyro Mavrogiorgou, Andriana Prentza, Michael Filippakis, Maurizio Megliola, Nikolaos Tousert, and Athanasios Kiourtis, representing the Department of Digital Systems, University of Piraeus (Greece), GFT Italia Srl (Italy), and UBITECH (Greece).

The presentation at TI-2026 provided an excellent opportunity to share research outcomes with the international scientific community and further promote the role of AI-enabled Extended Reality technologies in shaping the next generation of human-centric Industry 5.0 applications.
